Pennsylvania - The Keystone State

I received this great map card of the state of Pennsylvania from sweet Katie for Different Countries RR, Olympics Group from the 1st Postcrossing Meetup. On the back of the card it says, "Because of its central location among the original 13 states in the USA, Pennsylvania received the nickname "The Keystone State".

Harrisburg - Pennsylvania

This is an Official Postcrossing Postcard (US-484884) I had received back in August. It shows a view from Pennsylvania's capital city, Harrisburg. The river seen is the Susquehanna River that runs along side of the city. Harrisburg was chosen as the site for the state capital in 1812.

Statue of Benjamin Franklin - Philadelphia

Official Postcrossing Card: US-586568
Statue of Benjamin Franklin: Reading a copy of his Pennsylvania Gazette, Benjamin Franklin rests on a bench on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania, which he founded in 1740. This 1987 bronze by George Lundeen is one of the three statues of Franklin at Penn.

Pittsburgh

As far as I know I have received four cards of Pittsburgh till today: Three of them are from Katie (krhocevar) and an official one.

The first one is the last one I have received. It is from krhocevar for January RR 2010. The card shows The Italian Nationality Room in the Cathedral of Learning at the University of Pittsburgh. The decoration of the room reminds of a 15th century Tuscan monastery. Names and founding dates of Italian universities are carved on the bench backs - the oldest: Bologna, 1088. The rear wall mural honors the world's first woman to earn a university degree: Elena Lucrezia Cornaro Piscopia, who graduated from the University of Padua in 1678.

The second card from Katie shows the downtown Pittsburgh viewed at dawn from the West End Overlook (Different Countries RR, New Year Group).

This one is the Official Postcrossing Card (US-485039). It shows the Grandview Avenue during the city's annual Lightup Night, which is a day-long family festival in the city.

The last card is the first card of Pittsburgh I had received from Katie (krhocevar) for November RR 2009. It shows the largest fireworks display in Pittsburgh history for the 250th birthday celebration on October 4, 2008.
